Plumber Cessnock

Cessnock sits beside Bellbird, and Bellbird Plumbing Co covers it on the same run, from rusting galvanised water pipe near the town centre to cracked clay sewers and worn-out hot water cylinders. Drains, hot water, gas and after-hours plumbing all come through one number, with a fixed price agreed before any work starts.

What an Old Coal Town Needs

A boom town's plumbing

Cessnock grew quickly through the coal boom of 1903 to 1923, and pipe from that period is still in service. Census figures record 5,643 dwellings, 84.1 per cent of them separate houses, from federation houses and pit cottages close to the centre, through weatherboard and fibro homes of the 1950s to the 1970s, to recent building at the edges.

Rust in the water lines

Homes in the older blocks around the centre can still be on their first galvanised water pipe. As it corrodes inside, pressure falls away and the water can run rusty until the service is renewed in copper.

Clay sewers and roots

Cessnock's earliest sewers were laid in earthenware, and the town's reactive clay soil has been prising their joints open ever since. Trees along the older avenues and in back yards, now long established, send roots into those gaps, which is where camera checks and root cutting come in.

Cylinders from the same era

Storage heaters across the mid-century streets, many tucked into outside recesses, are ageing together, and the town's 8.2 frost days a year are hardest on the oldest. See hot water repairs and replacement.

Storms and grease

Summer storms coming over the Brokenback Range dump heavy rain on the town's low basin, and old drains in the lowest-lying streets back up when they cannot keep pace. Along the Vincent Street strip, fat from cafes and takeaways coats commercial lines, a job for drain jetting.

Two Questions From Around the Town

Do you charge a call-out fee?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). After the plumber has looked at the fault, the work is priced as a fixed figure, and you choose whether to go ahead.

Can the old galvanised water services be swapped to copper?

Yes. Replacing old galvanised water pipe with copper is priced as one fixed job, covering the new run, the connection at the meter and making good any ground we open. If only one length has failed, we quote that smaller repair instead.
